Passover is the celebration of God’s love and power in delivering His people out of the hands of the enemy.

We celebrate because these are God’s appointed times (mo’ed) to feast and celebrate, so this is not just a Jewish holiday, but a time for Believers to meet and feast with God.

It is important to us, as Christians, because we are spiritually united with Israel. When we came to Jesus we were grafted into Israel, sharing all the blessings God has given to Israel.

Preparing for Passover

Before Passover could be celebrated the people were to cleanse their homes from impurity.

Leaven was diligently searched for throughout the house. If any leaven (impurity) was found it had to be removed before Passover.   This continues to be important today.  Take time and remove any impurities, rid your home of any spiritual darkness so that God can release blessings over your home.

  • Search/remove each room for objects related to past sin or that have become idols in your life – is there anything from which you need deliverance?
  • Ask forgiveness
  • Consecrate your home and property to God
  • Plead the Blood over your home and property
  • Declare Joshua 24:15
  • Speak a blessing over you home

We are God’s Temple.  We have the incredible honor and privilege of carrying His Presence.

Have you forgotten that your body is now the sacred temple of the Spirit of Holiness,

who lives in you? You don’t belong to yourself any longer, for the gift of God, the Holy Spirit,

lives inside your sanctuary. You were God’s expensive purchase, paid for with tears of blood,

so by all means, then, use your body to bring glory to God!”

1Corinthians 6:19-20

As we steward His Presence, properly, in relationship, He will allow us the increasing privilege of releasing His Presence into various situations and other people’s lives.

  • Repent as needed
  • Plead the Blood over yourself
  • Dedicate your Temple to the Lord
  • Pray and invite the Presence of God
  • Practice the Presence of God

Practicing the Presence

For the Israelites in the wilderness, the Tabernacle held the Presence of God in the Golden Altar in the Holy of Holies.  All the Tribes camped around His Presence. It was the absolute center of life for the nation.

It is time we adjust our lives to having His Presence be our center. It is the heart of God for us.

Take time to recognize Him in every part of your life.  Knowing He is with you will keep you from anxiety and fear even when we are looking for answers.

I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand I will not be shaken.

Psalms 16:8

Worship, praying in tongues and reading God’s Word can all take us into His Presence that we might write our own private history with God. Our times in His Presence can release creative ideas. This is why when you sit down to spend time with the Lord you immediately begin to think of solutions for problems, remember things to do, and get new ideas. Do not automatically dismiss these as demonic distraction or interference. Write them down on a paper for later and continue in His Presence so you can follow up later.  You see, God is interested in what interests you and is often interacting with you giving you responses to things that are important to us.

As an Apostolic church, The Gathering “camps” around His Presence. While our individual times with God sustain us daily, there are aspects of God that can only be experienced in the corporate gathering.

Looking deeper at Passover

I have underlined some of the words that God highlighted as I read through the Scriptures and I will expound on them below.

Exodus 12:6-13, 21, 23-24,51

You must keep it (lamb) until the fourteenth day of the month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel will slaughter the animals at twilight. They are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the door frames of the houses where they eat the lambs.

They are to eat the meat that night, roasted over the fire, along with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

Do not eat any of the meat raw or cooked in boiling water, but only roasted over the fire—its head and legs and inner parts.  Do not leave any of it until morning; before the morning you must burn up any part that is left over.

This is how you are to eat it: You must be fully dressed for travel, with your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. You are to eat in haste; it is the LORD’s Passover.

On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every firstborn male, both man and beast, and I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.  The blood on the houses where you are staying will distinguish them; when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No plague will fall on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.

:21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and slaughter the Passover lamb.  And you shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning.

For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians; but when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you. And you shall keep this event as an ordinance for you and your children forever.

:51 And it came to pass, on that very same day, that the Lord brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt…

Twilight

One of the Hebrew meanings for Twilight is evenings. A translation of the word evenings is actually ‘between 2 evenings.’ The lamb was to be killed between 2 evenings –as with the crucifixion to come, Christ was killed between 2 evenings.  The slaying of the Temple lamb coincides exactly with Jesus’s death at the ninth hour.  (Matthew 27:46)

When the darkness came over the land and lasted until three in the afternoon, then the sun shone again and the sun set again.

The Blood

First mention of blood in the Scripture is Genesis 4:10 (KJV)

And he said, What hast thou done?  The voice of thy brother’s blood crieth  unto me.

Genesis 9:4 (KJV)

But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

Clearly, blood has life and how much more perfect is the Blood of Christ.

The lamb’s blood at Passover contained three specific things the Lamb of God’s Blood contained,

forgiveness, deliverance and protection.

Forgiveness

There is no forgiveness of sin without the shedding of blood.

For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Matthew 26:28

The forgiveness of sin with the Blood of Jesus provides for redemption.

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7

By forgiveness of sins we are brought near, and can receive atonement for our soul.

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been made near by the blood of Christ.

Ephesians 2:13

All of this provides Scriptural grounds that give us legal right to use the Blood of Jesus when under attack to bring deliverance.

Deliverance

The Blood gives us legal right to go on the offensive against any adversity that may come our way.

Jesus made this possible along with taking on our sin when He died on the Cross; He defeated satan and all the powers of dark by the shedding of His Blood.

that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. Hebrews 2:14

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:13)

Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. Colossians 2:15

Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

Luke 9:1

Protection

You can also Plead the Blood of Jesus on specific things like your body, house, car, and finances. The goal is to Plead the Blood of Jesus on those things in order to protect you before any kind of adversity could ever come your way.

When they applied the blood of the lamb the night the angel of death passed over, everyone covered by the blood was saved. All of their belongings were saved, their home was not harmed, nothing destroyed.

For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you.  Exodus 12:23

The Blood distinguishes us from others; apply it to yourself and others frequently.

THE VICTORY OVER SATAN AND HIS AUTHORITY IS BY

THE CROSS AND THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB.

You can’t talk about the Blood without considering the Blood Covenant.

The Blood Covenant

The Blood Covenant to Abraham was a promise made by God that He will choose a people for Himself and bless them. As Believers we are “in Christ” and we are therefore spiritual heirs of the promises made to Abraham (Galatians 3:29).

God’s promise of eternal blessing is given only on the basis of faith in the saving Blood of His Son, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 9:12).

Declare:

On the grounds of the Blood Covenant:

  • I have been given reconciliation with God.
  • I have been graced with peace for the Prince of Peace is always with me.
  • I have been given power through the authority of Christ my Lord.
  • I have been given the right to victory through the shed Blood of Jesus Christ.
  • I have been given access to the Kingdom to live a Kingdom life NOW.
  • I have been given powerful covenant rights to meet all my needs.
  • I have been given everlasting life.

Hyssop

The blood in the basin has little effect.  It is only when you apply the blood, in faith, with the hyssop to the door of your home does it become effective.

Why hyssop? The hyssop is our testimony.

We overcome Satan by the blood and the word of our testimony (Revelation 12:11).

What is our testimony?  Certainly, what God has done for us individually, but also to testify personally to what the Word of God says the Blood of Jesus does for us.

In transferring the blood from the basin to our lives we are:

  • Redeemed (1 Peter 1:18-19)
  • Cleansed (Psalm 51:7)
  • Justified (Romans5:9)
  • Sanctified (Hebrews 13:12)
  • Given life (Leviticus 17:11, John 6:53-57)
  • Access to the Throne Hebrews 10:19

Make these your “spoken testimony” as you apply the Blood of the Lamb, the evening of the Passover, to you and your family.

Declare that you will not waver from your faith in Yeshua, Jesus, during trials, tribulations or even in the face of death.

And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.  Revelation 12:11

Roasted

Why did God say that the lamb was to be roasted and not boiled?  The significance is that Jesus is our burnt offering, which required the lamb to be roasted.  Another reason for it not to be boiled is because God’s Word is not to be watered down.

Passover is to be a memorial

Exodus 12:14, this shall be unto you a memorial and you shall keep the feast to the Lord throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by ordinance forever.

On the same evening, Passover…

The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying,

“This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

The SPOIL

One of the points I made in Nisan was taking the spoil.  I felt to reiterate here.

Exodus 11:2 says the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians.  God has given us favor in the sight of our oppressors.

Exodus 12:31- 36

Then he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, “Rise, go out from among my people, both you and the children of Israel. And go, serve the Lord as you have said.  Also take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone; and bless me also.”

And the Egyptians urged the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste. For they said, “We shall all be dead.”   So the people took their dough before it was leavened, having their kneading bowls bound up in their clothes on their shoulders.   Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing.   And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.

The Israelites took payment for the years they had been in slavery or held by the devil.

Ask God about the thing in your life that has been held by the devil.

Do not automatically go to Scripture or declarations as in the past, which are great, but instead ask God for divine insight, new revelation.

Ask God for His solutions to “spoil” the enemy for one of the things he has held from you.

Passover is a spiritual transaction.

It is part of God’s plan for deliverance and salvation.  It is a celebration of Jesus.

God delivers us from our enemy and we celebrate God, seeking Him by faith, praising Him as we recognize we are redeemed, cleansed, justified, sanctified, renewed in life, and given access to Him.

DECLARE

We overcome Satan by the blood and the word of our testimony (Revelation 12:11) and

I am redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb out of the hand of the enemy.
